About Me

Hi :) I'm Ryan, an avid angler from Singapore! I have been fishing since I was 6 and started documenting the different species that I have caught in 2018. That makes me a lifelister - instead of chasing new PBs and big game fish like sportfishermen, I try to catch as many species of fish as possible! I chose lifelisting because I really appreciate the diversity that we have in our oceans that forms the intricate marine ecosystem, and I want to treat every species I encounter with equal respect. (and also because I can't seem to catch many big game fish yet 😥) As such, I mainly practice catch and release, and try not to harm the fish unless I intend to harvest it. I urge you to do the same!

Throughout my fishing journey, I have been blessed with many fellow anglers and lifelisters (all of whom are vastly more proficient and experienced than I am) who have guided me along in learning new fishing techniques and identifying new species. Such people include Leo Sheng from Extreme Philly Fishing and Eli from Obsessive Angling (who also has a phenomenal blog, by the way!) I have also been privileged to have the opportunity to share my passion with many of my peers, and you can check out our adventures on my instagram page @the_fishing_chinchilla! I have also started documenting my trips on video, and some of my works can be found below.

I started this website with the objectives of having a consolidated place to document my fishing journey - be it through my videos, lifelist or journal articles, and also network with fellow like-minded anglers!
